Twitter admits it has cut off popular apps like Tweetbot, Twitterific, here’s why – Times of India

For the last few days third-party Twitter apps like Twitterific, Tweetbot have been struggling as it was alleged that Twitter cut off access to the apps. Twitter has now confirmed that some apps may not be working because it is“is enforcing its long-standing API rules.” Twitter shared this in a tweet and didn’t offer any other explanation.
According to a report by Engadget, the Twitter app developers still haven’t got any clarity why access was cut or what rules have been enforced. “We haven’t heard anything from Twitter,” Twitterrific creator Craig Hockenberry told Engadget. “We have been respectful of their API rules, as published, for the past 16 years. We have no knowledge that these rules have changed recently or what those changes might be,” he added.
Tapbots, the creator of Tweetbot, also took to Twitter and questioned the move. “Tweetbot has been around for over 10 years, we’ve always complied with the Twitter API rules. If there’s some existing rule that we need to comply with, we’d be happy to do so, if possible. But we do need to know what it is….,” said Tapbots in a tweet.
An earlier report by The Information suggested that Twitter may have cut access as third-party apps don’t show any ads on their platform. This may have been looked as a factor in the ad revenue from Twitter has been on the decline.

These are popular third-party Twitter apps
