Twitter is Selling Its Surplus Office Furniture, Including a Bird Statue for $100,000

As Twitter undergoes drastic change under billionaire Elon Musk’s stewardship — a transition that’s included a massive reduction in headcount and the company falling behind on their rent — the social media giant is now auctioning off their furniture, industrial kitchen equipment, and office memorabilia belonging to its San Francisco offices.

The move is unsurprising given Twitters increasingly empty offices and Musk’s focus on cutting costs from a company known for free meals and other perks for its employees, but some of the items being sold (and their asking prices) are less expected. One notable example is a statue of the iconic Twitter logo, which was up to $100,000 before the lot closed. The item description states that the statue is 41 inches tall and 46 inches wide, and is currently located in Twitter’s offices on Market Street.

Also among the items being sold are a plethora of name brand sofas and chairs, televisions, projectors, and fancy kitchen equipment like espresso machines and industrial ovens, all of which appear to be steeply discounted from their standard asking prices. There’s even a soundproof office phone booth that I’d be lying if I said I didn’t consider bidding on.

The auction ends on Wednesday, with many of the items already sold, though its unlikely to help much with Twitter’s dire financial situation, as Musk himself admitted last year that the company “had a massive drop in revenue,” with reports that they were hemorrhaging millions of dollars every day. More recently, there have been reports that Twitter might get evicted from its San Francisco headquarters after they stopped paying their rent.
