Twitter pulls plug on its newsletter tool Revue – Times of India

Revue, “a newsletter tool for writers and publishers,” acquired by Twitter in 2021, is shutting down. The announcement comes days after Twitter’s new owner Elon Musk expressed interest in buying Substack, the rival newsletter publishing platform of Revue.
Revue will wrap up its operation on January 18, 2023, starting then, writers will not be able to access their accounts, and all the data will be deleted. The service sent writers an email announcing its decision to shut down.
With Revue, Twitter brought the newsletter within its platform, allowing writers to turn their followers into subscribers while providing an easy way to subscribe to newsletters through tweets.
“We’ll cut to the chase: from January 18, 2023, it will no longer be possible to access your Revue account. On that date, Revue will shut down and all data will be deleted. This has been a hard decision because we know Revue has a passionate user base, made up of people like you.” reads the email.
Elon Musk may buy Revue’s rival Substack
In reply to a tweet suggesting Elon Musk to buy Substack, the newsletter subscription platform, as Twitter would then have more control over the information and its narrative, Musk said, “I’m open to the idea.”
Musk shut down another publishing tool of Twitter
Scroll, which used to provide ad-free reading to Twitter Blue subscribers, one of Twitter’s pre-Musk era purchases, also faced the axe as Musk laid off half of the workforce, including the entire Scroll team of 13 people.
Twitter has been working on increasing the current tweet limit of 280 characters to 4,000 characters, which is “almost ready,” abolishing the long threads that Musk seems to hate. The microblogging platform also has “Notes,” a long-form alternative to 280-character tweets, under development, which we do not have any clue about.
