Twitter quietly removes the need for login to read tweets – Times of India

Last month Twitter started asking users to sign-in on the platform in order to view a tweet. The micro blogging platform was seen asking users to sign-in into their Twitter account if they want to view any tweet. Now it appears that this feature rolled out by the company was not really liked by the users. Twitter has now reportedly removed these restrictions.
According to a report by Engadget, Twitter has silently removed login restrictions for viewing tweets. The publication reported that many of the Twitter users were once again able to view individual tweets without logging-in into their Twitter accounts. “Profiles still seem to be busted for those who aren’t signed in, however. For instance, I’m able to see a user’s bio, but their feed of tweets isn’t showing up. Meanwhile, tweet previews are working in iMessage again for some folks,” mentioned the report.

However, Twitter owner Elon Musk mentioned that the restriction on viewing tweets was an emergency measure. “Temporary emergency measure. We were getting data pillaged so much that it was degrading service for normal users!”, Musk tweeted.
No official announcement has been made by the company regarding the ability for users to view links without being logged in, nor have they provided any information on the measures taken to prevent scraping.
Twitter’s decision comes just one day prior to the launch of Meta‘s own text-based app called Threads.
Instagram launched Twitter rival Threads app
Meanwhile, Instagram has officially launched the Threads, a rival app to Twitter. Threads is a new app developed by the Instagram team, designed to facilitate the sharing of text updates and participation in public discussions. Users can log in by utilising their Instagram accounts, and posts have a maximum limit of 500 characters. Additionally, posts can incorporate links, photos, and videos with durations of up to 5 minutes.
