Ubisoft insists Prince of Persia remake not canceled, despite refunds

You’re gonna need a bigger hourglass

In the newest chapter of the epic tale surrounding the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake, publisher Ubisoft has further insisted that the missing-in-action adventure remains on track for future release, despite refunds having been issued to all of the title’s pre-order customers.

First announced back in the summer of 2020, the newly visioned edition of the 2003 adventure game has been mired in development delay, leading several retailers to remove a release date or, in some cases, delist the product entirely from their websites. This week, pre-order customers noticed that their purchase had been refunded, further suggesting that the title had been quietly buried beneath the Persian dunes.

Noting this, Ubisoft opened a special FAQ page, hoping to answer the fans’ questions and concerns over the fragile-looking release. According to the FAQ, the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake has not been canceled, and remains in development at Ubisoft Montreal, (the studio gaining control of the project from its brethren Ubisoft Mumbai). Ubisoft says that refunds were issued due to a total lack of availability on an expected release date.

Elsewhere in the FAQ, Ubisoft also notes that it has no plans to remake any other classic Prince of Persia titles. Given the rigmarole the publisher has experienced with Sands of Time to date, I can imagine that the franchise is currently on the “Do Not Mention” list within the studio’s walls

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time is, (apparently), in development at Ubisoft.
