UK Anti-Doping investigate Benn’s drugs test as he could face ban
UK Anti-Doping is investigating Conor Benn’s failed drugs test that scuppered his highly anticipated grudge fight with Chris Eubank Jr. Last Wednesday, just three days out from the bout between the two second generation superstars, it was revealed Benn had returned what his promoters called an “adverse analytical finding for trace amounts of a fertility drug.”
However, Benn’s team insisted the fight would still go ahead as no B sample had been taken by VADA, with the star himself claiming he and Eubank Jr had spoken with both fighters happy to proceed. The British Boxing Board of Control intervened though, refusing to sanction the bout.
Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn then failed in a legal challenge to the BBBOC, with the clash finally declared off on Thursday. And since then the saga had ignited, with Hearn and the remainder of the boxer’s team coming under fire for allegedly covering up the failed test.
The clash had already been the subject of controversy given the agreed catch weight between the pair, which meant Benn going up in wait and his opponent having to cut mass. A rehydration clause was also in place, in order to limit how much weight Eubank Jr could regain in the 24 hours after the weigh-ins.

Ukad is duty bound to investigate any doping case involving a violation by a boxer licensed by the BBBOC, which is under its jurisdiction. And according to a BBC report, if found guilty of an anti-doping violation, the 26-year-old could receive a suspension of up to four years.
The B sample will now be tested and if that also comes back positive for the banned substance clomifene then Benn, who has continued to insist he his clean, will have the opportunity to explain how the substance could have go got into his system. Clomifene can be used to boost testosterone levels in men and is on the prohibited list provided by the World Anti-Doping Agency.
