UK to host first global summit on artificial intelligence safety – Times of India
What will the AI safety summit focus on
As per a report by news agency Reuters, the summit will explore the risks of AI, including frontier systems.In a statement, the UK government said that the conference will also discuss how risks posed by AI can be mitigated through internationally coordinated action. However, the report didn’t confirm the date of the summit.
US tech company Palantir Technologies is also expected to separately announce its plans to make the UK its new European headquarters for AI development. The company already has more than 800 employees in Britain.
It is to be noted that UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is on a trip to the US and is set to meet US President Joe Biden at the White House. The US and UK officials have confirmed that their leaders will also discuss strengthening their economic security.
The UK government said that Sunak has planned wide-ranging discussions with Biden on the relationship between both nations. Sunak is also planning to talk about how the two countries could work together to strengthen their economies and cement their “joint leadership in the technologies of the future”.
Sunak and Biden will reportedly work to coordinate their approaches towards critical and emerging technologies.
Other countries planning to regulate AI
Former Twitter CEO Elon Musk, who recently met Chinese officials during his recent trip to the country, has said that the Chinese government is also planning to initiate AI regulations. Regulators across the globe are also working to draft rules to regulate the use of generative AI that can create text and images. The impact of this AI language model is compared to the arrival of the internet.
