Untitled Star Wars Movie Finds New Writer After Damon Lindelof, Justin Britt-Gibson Depart

An untitled Star Wars project has reportedly tapped Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight to write the script, just a day after it was revealed that previous screenwriters Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson departed the movie.

The news broke in a Variety report today. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is still slated to direct, and details behind the original duo’s exit have yet to be revealed.

In addition to Peaky Blinders, Knight is best known for writing movies including Closed Circuit, Dirty Pretty Things, Eastern Promises, and The Girl in the Spider’s Web.

This project in particular first came to light last October, when it was revealed that Lost co-creator Lindelof was co-writing the script. At the time, Deadline reported that it would take place after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

There’s almost no additional information about the movie available, but it’s likely we’ll learn more at the Star Wars Celebration event, which is taking place April 7-10 in London.

There are already high expectations for announcements out of the Lucasfilm Studio Showcase on April 7, which promises that “Lucasfilm’s current crop of live-action filmmakers will be joined by special guests to discuss the many current and upcoming Star Wars adventures.”

If this movie is officially announced at the Celebration, it will mark first major Star Wars film since 2019’s divisive Rise of Skywalker. In recent years, Disney and Lucasfilm have focused on increasing Star Wars’ output on streaming service Disney+, with live-action series like The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Andor.
