Valorant: New Riot Games Job Listing Hints at Upcoming Consoles Launch

The popular FPS Valorant may be coming to consoles sooner than we expected, and even on mobiles for that matter. Riot Games has new job listings that reveal the existence of Valorant’s Platform Extensions team. They are currently recruiting across multiple positions for shipping the game to consoles.

Staff Console Engineers for Valorant’s Console UI and Tech Required at Riot

Riot Games is currently hiring a staff software engineer for Valorant’s “Console UI”, and a staff software engineer for “console tech”. According to the official job listing, the Staff Software Engineer for Console UI will help with “the discovery and delivery of new features and content to a live, tactical shooter across multiple platforms – Console and/or Mobile.

Staff Software Engineers for Valorant’s Console Tech on the other hand, will have to

“design and build solutions for areas such as patching and content delivery, performance and reliability management, console certification and releasability, and tooling that enables fast iteration and validation at scale.”

Consoles where Valorant will be shipped are most likely to include both Xbox and PlayStation. Also, as we can see, the job listing for new Staff Software Engineer for Console UI includes “mobile” as well. However, it still seems like a distant plan, unlike the console release of Valorant.

For qualifications, Riot lists that they are looking for people with experience of console platform integration. Additionally, they need to have experience of having shipped at least one console game, preferably made on Unreal Engine. Experience with shipping multigenerational console titles is also desired, amongst other requirements.

Alongside, Riot Games is also hiring a Manager for Software Engineering for Valorant’s Foundations Console department. This manager will head the team of Staff Software Engineers for Valorant’s Console Tech.

Riot Games Is Hiring Playtester for Valorant’s Console Version

Additionally, an Associate Console Playtest Analyst is also being recruited for the Game Analysis team. According to the official notice, this console playtester has to “focus on validation testing of upcoming gameplay experiences for Valorant.” They will have to “work directly with developers to play in, plan, and evaluate playtests”. This indicates that the ball has already started rolling for shipping the PC FPS to consoles, where versions are even ready for playtests.

While Riot Games is yet to announce the console versions of Valorant, these job listings suggest that they are knee deep in the development phase for the same.
