Verstappen 10th in alternative table with Tsunoda top and Alonso fourth

Max Verstappen sits 10th in an alternative Formula 1 table that considers the percentage of points that each driver has won for their team. Yuki Tsunoda is top of the table alongside Williams man Alex Albon while the reinvigorated Fernando Alonso is fourth closely behind Haas star Nico Hulkenberg.

Verstappen has been the dominant force in F1 this season with Red Bull comfortably clear of the rest of the pack. The Dutchman currently leads the world championship after accumulating 119 points in the opening five races.

However, team-mate Sergio Perez has also made an impressive start claiming victories in both Saudi Arabia and Azerbaijan to sit just 14 behind the 25-year-old at the top of the standings. The Mexican’s form means the points have been well shared at Red Bull. As a result Verstappen sits tenth in the table of points won per team-mate, claiming just 53% of the Milton Keynes outfit’s share.

Tsunoda and Albon both sit top after taking 100% of the points for AlphaTauri and Williams respectively. Hulkenberg is next after winning 75% of Haas’ points with Alonso closely behind on 74% after his excellent start to the season for Aston Martin.

Lando Norris is next after grabbing 71% of McLaren’s share with Valtteri Bottas behind with 67% for Alfa Romeo. Lewis Hamilton (58%), Pierre Gasly (57%) and Carlos Sainz (56%) make up the rest of the table before Verstappen is found in tenth.

Verstappen and Perez have come to blows at times during their two-and-a-half years at team-mates but there has been growing respect between them this year. The duo were quick to praise each other after their respective wins in Baku and Miami as they work together to ensure Red Bull can remain well clear of the rest of the grid.

“We know that we have a very quick car, so it’s quite normal that it’s between the two of us at the moment – so there’s nothing new there,” Verstappen explained. “Between us we have a good understanding, a good relationship.

“I think what we want to focus on is just to try and make the car better and faster, to try and stay ahead of everyone else. That’s the main objective and then the rest you will do on the track anyway.”

Verstappen will be the favourite to take home the win in the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix when Formula 1 returns in under two weeks’ time after beating Perez to victory at the same track last year.
