Vijay Hazare Trophy: BCCI asks selectors Chetan Sharma, Abey Kuruvilla to head to Bihar | Cricket News – Times of India

MUMBAI: The BCCI has asked chief selector Chetan Sharma and his colleague from the West Zone, Abey Kuruvilla, to travel to Bihar during the Vijay Hazare Trophy starting next month. The two selectors will be present there during the matches held in the state to ensure transparency in selection process and other team and player-related matters.
It is learnt that the BCCI is keen on ensuring that the transparency levels are high during the tournament, especially in a region that’s been in dispute on several fronts in recent months. From non-payment to cricketers to the state’s T20 league being in defiance with the Board, to murmurs of dubious selections and more – the state and its cricket has been in the news for all the wrong reasons.
Sources in the BCCI say “There needs to be some monitoring in the state, and we thought why not begin with cricket. So, we’ve decided to send Chetan and Abey there.”
This appears to be a process that the BCCI is now likely to put in place for every state association battling internal disputes. The Board was in fact under severe pressure over the last 12 months to pay Bihar cricketers their dues from the last two seasons and an office-bearer says “one reason why it took so much time was because of the ‘issues’ within the association. We’re trying to see how it can be set right”.
