Virat Kohli hits a ton against Pakistan in Asia Cup; becomes fastest batsman to 13,000 ODI runs

India’s batting talisman Virat Kohli on Wednesday scored a hundred against Pakistan in 84 balls in the Super 4 stage of the Asia Cup. This is Kohli’s 47th hundred in One-day internationals.

Kohli also completed 13,000 ODI runs, becoming the fastest player to reach the landmark in men’s ODIs.

The 34-year-old batsman completed 13,000 runs 267 ODI innings, beating Sachin Tendulkar’s record who took 321 innings to reach the mark. Kohli became the fifth player to reach the landmark in men’s ODIs after Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Sanath Jayasuriya and Mahela Jayawardene.

Ponting (341) and Sangakkara (363) took over 300 innings, while Jayasuriya reached the mark in 416 innings.

Kohli is also the only one among the five to average over 50. With 47 ODI hundreds, Kohli is also just two away from equalling Tendulkar’s record tally of ODI tons.

Meanwhile, KL Rahul made a comeback in international cricket with a 100 in 100 balls and the duo took India to a total of 356/2 at the end of 50 overs in the first innings. Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill scored half-centuries and provided India a solid start on Sunday before rain played spoilsport. Intermittent rain pushed the marquee Asia Cup clash between the arch-rivals to a reserve day. India were 147 for two in 24.1 overs when rain lashed the Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Play resumed at 3 pm local time on Monday.
