Virat Kohli wins heart again as he turns water boy in second ODI vs West Indies

Indian batting stalwart Virat Kohli, who was rested in the second ODI vs West Indies, won hearts of his fans when he turned up as ‘water boy’ during the drinks breaks. India lost the match to West Indies by six wickets. During the first ODI against West Indies, Kohli was seen giving some batting tips to West Indies opener Brandon King, a gesture that warmed the hearts of his fans.

In the past, Kohli has carried drinks on many occasions when we was not a part of the playing eleven. In 2017 during Dharamsala Test match between India and Australia Kohli was seen carrying drinks. Kohli had sat out due to an injury and Ajinkya Rahane led the team in his absence.

“He believes Cricket is above him. So he is a great player,” commented a fan on Twitter. Another said: “Great Kohli. I like that attitude. It will definitely boost the morale of the team.”

Virat Kohli is the fifth-highest run-getter in ODI cricket history after Sachin Tendulkar, Kumar Sangakkara, Ricky Ponting and Sanath Jayasuriya. He is just 102 runs away from completing 13,000 runs in the one-day format.

In the two-match Test series against West Indies, which India won 1-0, Kohli made his mark with a ton in the second Test match.

The Indian run machine has featured in 274 matches and has scored 12898 runs with an average of 57.32. He has bagged 46 hundred and 65 fifties so far.In the second ODI, in the absence of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, India were put into bat but a latter order batting collapse meant Hardik Pandya’s boys could only put a total of 181. West Indies chased down the total in 37th over with skipper Shai Hope (63 not out) and Keacy Carty (48 not out) playing patient knocks. The final ODI will be played on Tuesday before a five-match Twenty20 series.

India head coach Rahul Dravid has defended the decision to experiment excessively with the team combination in the ongoing ODI series against West Indies and the call to rest skipper Rohit Sharma and fellow experienced batter Virat Kohli in the second match. Team India had also rejigged their batting line-up in the first ODI. Dravid said that it was important to get a look at fringe players like Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup and ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup later this year.
