It’s not often you get something for nothing but that’s exactly what Virgin Media is offering its customers. The UK Internet Service Provider (ISP) has confirmed that millions of its users will suddenly see vastly improved upload speeds which will make sending files to friends and adding videos to platforms such as YouTube way faster. In fact, things are being doubled to a maximum of 104Mbps.
The upgrade is being added to current plans without Virgin increasing prices. The only caveat is that the boost will only be applied to customers who have taken out the firm’s M500 or Gig1 packages.
If that’s you then here’s the boost you can expect later this week.
• Virgin Media M500 users – Current upload speeds 36Mbps – upgraded to 52Mbps
• Virgin Media Gig 1 – Current upload speeds 52Mbps – upgraded to 104Mbps
So how do you get the better upload speeds?
Once the boost has been pushed out, all you need to do is turn off your router via the power switch on the back, wait 30 seconds and then turn it back on again. The reboot can take around 5 minutes so make sure nobody is in the middle of an important download or needs to make a Zoom call to the office.
Once things are back online you should see the better upload speeds.
This free-of-charge boost comes just months after Virgin Media also increased speeds for all M100 and M200 customers as well.
Speaking about the update, Gareth Turpin, Chief Commercial Officer at Virgin Media O2, said: “As demand for fast and reliable connectivity continues to soar, we’re boosting upload speeds for millions of our broadband customers at no extra cost. In the last year, we’ve seen record upstream demand on our fixed network as a result of more people regularly working from home, using video calling apps and new advances in gaming, so now more than ever we’re laser focused on offering our customers a service that supports them now and in the future.”
