Vivo V27 Pro Review: Design
Vivo V27 Pro is a sleek device at first glance. Vivo has tried to better its design in comparison to its predecessor, which is quite visible. Although it has a triple-lens setup at the back, its camera module is huge and it makes the smartphone look even more attractive. The camera module has a 4th ring as well, which is an LED flash. Vivo has given the flash in the form of a ring, so don’t confuse it for a 4th camera lens. You will get a better idea of the design by looking at the images below.
The main attraction of the design of the Vivo V27 Pro is its color-changing rear panel. The same was found in Vivo V25 Pro as well, but it has been improved a lot this time. See, how the light sky blue shade of the device changes to a dark blue hue as soon as it comes in contact with UV rays in sunlight. We covered a part of the device while it was in sunlight, so a part of it still remained light blue. The images below show our hands-on experience.
The rear panel has 3 camera lenses and these 3 lenses have a steel ring around them. There is a slight camera bump, but the device comes with a protective case that resolves this issue. There is Vivo branding under the camera module and the overall device is quite sleek and curved from the edges. When you hold the device in your hand, you will feel as if it will slip out so having a protective cover on becomes mandatory. Don’t worry, even after the protective case is slipped on, the device gives a good feel in your hand and now you can use it with one hand easily.
The handset is made of glass on both sides, but it doesn’t come with Gorilla Glass protection, instead, Vivo preferred to go with SCHOTT Xensation for protection. There is an aluminum frame between the glasses, wherein the right edge houses the volume rocker and power button while the left edge is vacant. The bottom edge consists of a Sim tray, secondary microphone, Type-C port, and speaker grille, while the top frame has ‘Professional Portrait’ engraved on it along with one more microphone.
Vivo V27 Pro has a big 6.78-inch display, but it weighs a mere 183 grams. It is 10 grams lighter than the recently launched iQOO Neo 7. Although it has a slightly smaller battery, that might be the reason for the device being lightweight.
Vivo V27 Pro comes with a large display and a sleek stylish design. You get a premium feel on holding the device in your hand and also get to experience a new look. Overall, the design is very good. It comes in Noble Black and Magic Blue colors and both variants look beautiful.
Vivo V27 Pro Review: Display & Audio
The Vivo V27 Pro sports a 6.78-inch FHD+ display. It is an AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10 support. You can choose colors between Standard, Pro, and Bright color profiles from the screen settings option. The V27 Pro Standard mode is the most accurate of the three profiles. Bright mode boosts colors a lot while Pro mode is not for regular users.
The smartphone comes with a 120Hz refresh rate which ensures super smooth scrolling, and to save battery life, the device automatically switches to a 60Hz refresh rate as soon as you play a video or stop scrolling. We used the device on ‘Smart Switch’ mode most of the time, but if you are a gamer who wants to have seamless gaming, you can switch to the 120Hz option as well. With this option, the refresh rate rises from 60Hz to 90Hz, but on the flip side, the battery will drain out faster. To tackle this issue, you can switch back to Smart Switch after you have had your gaming session.
Content consumption is fun on Vivo V27 Pro. It comes with HDR10+ support but this support is only found on YouTube, Netflix doesn’t get any HDR support. Pro Mode shows beautiful colors and one can adjust brightness according to one’s needs. There is auto-brightness as well, which keeps brightness low in sunlight which makes the screen not clearly visible. Adjust the brightness yourself so that you don’t face any issues. The visuals on the screen are sharp, viewing angles are decent and slim bezels make sure that the visuals are huge.
Audio while calling is good as the speaker of the Vivo V27 Pro sounds loud. You can play music on it in one room and keep working nearby. However, if you are someone who still likes to listen to music the old-fashioned way using wired headphones, you will not find a 3.5mm headphone jack on this one. You will either have to get a connector or use Bluetooth headphones.
Vivo V27 Pro Review: Performance & Software
Vivo V27 Pro is the 2nd smartphone after iQOO Neo 7 to be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8200 chipset. The chipset has good performance. It is based on 4nm manufacturing technology with 8 cores, out of which one Arm Cortex A78 core has a clock speed of 3.1GHz, 3 Arm Cortex A78 cores have a clock speed of 3.0GHz and the rest of the 4 Arm Cortex A55 cores have a clock speed of 2.0GHz. The smartphone performs well in everyday use. Calling, social media scrolling, video streaming for hours, gaming, emails, and more everything is fast and smooth. The best part about it was the smartphone never heated during the usage period.
The Vivo V27 Pro is a good option for gamers as well because the device can handle long gaming sessions. For best animations, one can set the refresh rate to 120Hz. Heavy Games like Call of Duty, and Asphalt 9, also work fine on the smartphone. If you are someone who looks for good gaming while buying a smartphone, then Vivo V27 Pro won’t disappoint you.
We performed some benchmark tests on Vivo V27 Pro, here are the results.
Vivo V27 Pro 5G Benchmark Scores
Benchmark Tests | Scores |
GeekBench 6 (single and multi-core) | 1210, 3627 |
3D Mark Extreme Stress test | 2230 |
PC Mark Work 3.0 | 11916 |
Recently, Vivo’s sub-brand iqoo has also launched a smartphone with the same chipset, but the benchmark scores of Vivo V27 Pro are better. This means you get better performance with Vivo V27 Pro 5G. The smartphone comes with up to 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256GB UFS 3.1 storage. It will be available in 3 storage variants, and it doesn’t have a micro SD card slot.
Coming to the software, the Vivo V27 Pro 5G runs Funtouch OS 13 based on Android 13. The device comes with a little bloatware but that can be deleted as per your needs. Vivo has added some new features to the FunTouch OS this time. These include iManager, more options for video editing, and Material You coming with matching color schemes according to wallpapers. The color of app icons can also be changed along with new options for battery privacy, personalization, and more.
Vivo V27 Pro Camera Review
This newest offering by Vivo features a 50MP primary Sony IMX766V sensor with OIS. There is an 8MP ultrawide camera and a 2MP macro lens as well. At the front, you will find a 50MP selfie camera. One good thing about the camera setup on the Vivo is that you get to use flash with portrait mode. The flash is in the shape of a ring which makes it reflect light at a specific point but still not overdo it. The flash comes in handy when one wants to take portrait shots in low light. There is a new Wedding photography mode as well, that comes only for Indian consumers. There are many shadows and filters also available for photography.
Talking about the primary sensor, it clicks beautiful images in natural light, especially colors are quite accurate. The images have a good dynamic range and are detailed as well. The primary sensor works well in low-light conditions as well, however, details get lost when you zoom in. Without zooming in, the images clicked in low light come out to be decent.
The wide-angle camera to doesn’t pose any major complaints. It is quite clear that an 8MP sensor will not click as good images as a 50MP sensor, but still the results are respectable. A 2MP macro lens is ignored worthy and like all other phones, this has been given just to make it a triple camera setup. Its performance can be seen in the images below.
Let’s talk a little about the selfie camera now. Vivo V27 Pro is a good choice for people who are fond of taking selfies regularly. The selfie camera comes with a classic filter that makes your face look even more beautiful. However, if you are someone who wants natural skin tone without any filter in your selfies, you can disable this filter and then click some.
The rear camera has modes like Portrait, Micro Movie, SuperMoon, and Dual Exposure. Slo-mo, Panorama, Pro, Long Exposure, Live Photo, High-Resolution, Time Lapse, Sports, and more.
Vivo V27 Pro Review: Battery
Vivo V27 Pro packs a 4600mAh battery with 66W fast charging capability. Maximum phones these days come with a 5000mAh battery at least, and those which have a smaller battery come with 80W/120W/100W fast charging. This makes us feel that the battery could have been bigger, but then the device would not have been this slim if the battery was bigger.
During usage, the battery lasted long as it ran easily for an entire day with light to moderate usage. However, if you are a heavy user, then you will have to charge it slightly earlier. The 66W adapter comes bundled inside the box.
Vivo V27 Pro Review Verdict: Should you buy it?
Vivo V27 Pro is one of the most stylish devices available under Rs 40K. Although the Indian market has quite a few phones in this category, but there are some things that might attract you to Vivo V27 Pro. Its color-changing back panel, reliable performance, and Excellent camera for both primary rear and front cameras make it stand out from other phones in its price range. Its slim design also adds to its overall appeal.
However, the V27 Pro has its own shortcoming too such as a lack of stereo speakers, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and an IP rating. If you are looking for a mid-range phone with a stylish design and capable cameras, the Vivo V27 Pro could be a suitable choice for you, particularly if you are working within a tight budget.
