Vivo X90 vs Vivo X80: How the two flagship series smartphones compare – Times of India

Vivo has expanded its flagship smartphone with the launch of the Vivo X90 and Vivo X90 Pro in India. Both smartphones feature the latest generation of Vivo-ZEISS co-engineered imaging systems and are powered by the Dual Flagship chipset consisting of MediaTek Dimensity 9200 paired with Pro Imaging Chip V2. The newly launched X90 series succeeds the Vivo X80 series launched in 2022. The smartphones will be available for purchase starting May 5, on Flipkart, Vivo India e-store, and across all partner retail stores.
Here, we compare the Vivo X90 with last year’s launched Vivo X80 smartphone. The comparison is based on the price, display, performance and camera.
Vivo X90 vs Vivo X80: Price
Vivo X90 comes at a starting price of Rs 59,999 for the 8GB RAM and 256GB storage whereas the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage option is priced at Rs 63,999. The Vivo X90 Pro comes with a 12GB+256GB variant that will be available for Rs 84,999. Vivo X80 is available at a starting price of Rs 54,999 for the 8GB+128GB model while the 12GB+256GB variant is priced at Rs 59,999.
Vivo X90 vs Vivo X80: Display
Vivo X90 comes with a 6.78-inch ultra-vision eye protection screen along with professional-grade eye protection. The 3D curved screen features a larger viewing area, 1.07 billion colours, 100% DCI-P3 wide color gamut HDR10+ support, and up to 120Hz refresh rate. The display also has a new ZEISS Natural colour mode to give you accurate and more natural screen colours.
The Vivo X80 comes with a 6.78-inch E5 AMOLED panel and an FHD+ screen that offers 1080 x 2400 pixels resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, a 240Hz touch sampling rate and a peak brightness of 1000 nits.
Vivo X90 vs Vivo 80: Performance
Vivo X90 is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9200 chipset paired with a Pro Imaging V2 chip. The smartphone comes with LPDDR5 paired with UFS 4.0 storage. The Mediatek Dimensity 9000 chipset powers last year’s Vivo X80 smartphone. The chipset under the hood comes paired with up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 internal memory.
In terms of battery, the Vivo X90 boasts of a 4810mAh battery with 50W wireless FlashCharge. The phone offers two charging modes, and the Rapid mode in X90 can charge the smartphone to 50% in about 8 minutes and 100% in 27 minutes, the company claims. Meanwhile, the Vivo X80 features a 4500mAH battery, supporting 80W fast charging.
Vivo X90 runs Funtouch OS13 based on Android 13 operating system and the Vivo X80 runs Funtouch OS 12 based on Android 12 operating system. In terms of sensors, both Vivo X90 and X80 support in-display fingerprint scanning.
Vivo X90 vs Vivo X80: Camera
Coming to the camera department, Vivo X90 features a 50MP VCS true colour main camera with a Sony IMX866 sensor, a 12MP portrait camera, and a 12MP ultra-wide camera. Compared to the previous generation, it now has a 20% improvement in noise reduction and a 15% improvement in colour reproduction to ensure color consistency, the company claims. The smartphone has a 32MP sensor on the front for selfies and video chats.
Vivo’s X80 features a triple rear camera setup comprising a 50MP Sony IMX866 primary sensor with an f/1.75 aperture and OIS, a 12MP Sony IMX663 ultra-wide shooter and a 12MP 50mm telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom. The smartphone comes with a 32MP camera housed inside the punch-hole cut on the front.
