Warzone Haunting event release time, dates, Operation Nightmare, Zombie Royale
Call of Duty fans are counting down to the start of The Haunting event in Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone. The Haunting Halloween event has an October 17 release date and a 6pm BST launch time for fans living in the UK. The imminent Call of Duty event will run until just after Halloween, so you have a couple of weeks to take part in the action. It adds new limited-time game modes, haunted items, spooky maps, and a ton of horror-themed bundles. This includes a crossover with Diablo 4, which is also about to launch a spooky new season.
In terms of new game modes, Activision is getting ready to unleash Operation Nightmare and Zombie Royale in Warzone.
Operation Nightmare taks players with investigating “eldritch anomalies across the map”, all the while hunting down monstrous targets.
This includes new enemies like the Swamp Creature, Pharaoh, UFO, Ghost Train, Evil Spirits and The Butcher.
As for Zombie Royale, the game ditches the Gulag, with players instead returning to the map as zombies with unique abilities.
Activision explains more: “Once you’ve been zombified, you’ll find several impressive abilities available to you as you attempt to savagely tear apart the remaining human Operators, all the while collecting special syringes with the purpose of ending your undead purgatory and returning to fight as a human.
“As the match progresses, expect an additional undead twist as the corpses of every Operator currently spectating the match twitch back to life, creating additional hordes of rotting foes to contend with!
“Squads can still function with some of their Operators transformed into zombies, allowing for a variety of tactics if you work in unison. However, zombies slain in the continuing mayhem are eliminated from the match.
“The squad that defeats enemies both undead and living and finishes the fight can claim victory!”
In Modern Warfare, Activision will give two maps a haunted makeover. El Asilo celebrates Día de Muertos, while Embassy becomes the site of a bloody zombie attack.
Perhaps most exciting of all, however, are the licensed costumes and bundles available from the item shop.
This includes Inarius and Lilith from Diablo, Skeletor from He-Man, Ash William from The Evil Dead and Alucard from Hellsing.
That’s on top of an incredible looking DOOM weapon bundle, complete with Chainsaw and long-range Shotgun.
