At halftime of the match, Thomas informed viewers that Hislop was conscious and speaking.
As of now, neither Hislop nor ESPN has disclosed the cause behind the sudden collapse, leaving fans and colleagues concerned about his well-being.
On Monday, Hislop expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming concern and support he has received in a video message shared by ESPN FC. Reflecting on the incident, he stated, “Well, that was awkward. What a 24 hours this has been.”
Hislop acknowledged that life occasionally presents moments that demand reflection and appreciation. He took the opportunity to express his heartfelt thanks to his family, friends, ESPN colleagues, and all those who have been part of his life’s journey.
“That was big. Every so often life gives you moments to pause and this was mine. There is so much I have to be thankful for, my wife, kids, family, friends, for people I’ve shared a space with over the years,” Hislop said gratefully.
The former Premier League goalkeeper also extended his appreciation to those he may have lost touch with over the years but have reached out with their support. Their gestures have undoubtedly provided comfort during this challenging time.
Hislop emphasised that his next course of action is to seek the best medical expertise available and carefully heed the advice of his doctors.
“To all those that I’ve lost touch with over the years that have reached out either directly or indirectly, thank you. My response now has to be to seek out the best medical opinion I can get and listen to what my doctors have to say,” he stated resolutely.
Shaka Hislop, known for his illustrious 15-year career in the Premier League, notably representing Newcastle and West Ham, has also proudly played on the international stage for Trinidad and Tobago.
