Watch out Samsung! Amazon drops Fire TV to cheapest ever price

Amazon is bringing some serious competition to the television market as it’s dropped its Fire TVs to their lowest ever prices ahead of its Prime Day sale. These Smart TVs only launched in the UK a few months ago, so it’s incredible that you can already bag one of these custom-designed TVs for under £150 – easily one of the best Prime Day deals we’ve come across.

If you’re looking for the cheapest Smart TV from the team at Amazon, look no further than the Fire TV 32-inch (720p HD) which has dropped down to just £149.99 from its standard RRP of £249.99. This makes it one of the most reasonably priced TVs on the market, perfect if you’re on the lookout for a cheap screen for a kitchen or spare bedroom.

As the Fire TV brand suggests, Amazon has designed these Smart TVs with its popular Fire TV operating system in mind. Instead of buying a standalone Fire TV Stick to add this software to your existing telly, the Fire TV hardware has everything baked in. Fire TV supports the biggest streamers, including Prime Video (obviously), Disney+, Netflix, BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, and more.

It also supports games, video call software, gaming streaming via Amazon Luna, and voice search via Alexa.

Of course, £149.99 is a ludicrously low price for an all-in-one telly so it won’t surprise you to learn that this Fire TV model is capped at 720p. That’s still High Definition (HD) but TVs with 1080p or 4K Ultra HD will offer a much crisper and detailed viewing experience. Amazon offers Fire TV models with these higher resolution screens, although this cost a little more.

Also, while the 32-inch Fire TV supports Dolby Digital Audio, you’ll need a soundbar or sound system to really hear that audio quality. This isn’t just true for this £149.99 but something we’d recommend with all flatscreen sets, since the svelte shape of the television doesn’t lend itself to a well-rounded audio experience.

To take advantage of the discounts available in the Prime Day sales, you’ll need to hold a valid Amazon Prime membership.

That’s not the case with any other sales on Amazon, including the January sales or Black Friday. If you’re not signed-up for the scheme, you can take out a 30-day Prime free trial. Even if you’ve taken advantage of this generous freebie before, it’s worth checking to see if your account is eligible again (Amazon lets existing customers take out a free trial every year or so).

In our Fire TV 4-Series review, we praised this telly for its easy-peasy set-up process and flawless user interface – both features that are standard across all Amazon Fire TVs, not just the more expensive 4-Series.

That’s because all Amazon Fire TVs arrive with its ever-popular Fire TV software baked in. This rival to Roku and Android TV brings instant access to a swathe of services, including Prime Video, Netflix, Apple TV+ and Disney+. The bundled Alexa remote control has dedicated buttons for the most popular streaming services, plus there’s that all-important Alexa button so you summon the useful assistant with just one tap.

Thanks to Alexa support, you can find shows, films and actors with a quick voice command, pause playback, and perform tasks such as setting timers, add reminders to your To Do list, check live footage from your Ring video doorbell, and more. For those familiar with the Amazon Echo smart speakers, Alexa works exactly the same on this flatscreen telly.

On the rear case, Amazon has included a handful of HDMI ports, so you won’t run out of sockets if you have a Sky box, console and Apple TV set-top box to plug in.
