  • Dravid took 5 wickets in international cricket while bowling off-spin
  • Dravid has been overseeing India’s preparations for New Zealand Tests

India head coach Rahul Dravid seems to be pretty hands-on in his coaching approach. After he was spotted doubling as a throw down specialist in his first assignment as a full-time coach during the T20I series vs New Zealand, Dravid was bowling off-spin to India batters at the nets in the lead up to the 2-Test series against the Black Caps.

On Wednesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India took to social media to share a video clip of Rahul Dravid bowling at the nets. The former India captain rolled his arm over, bowling off-spin to the likes of Cheteshwar Pujara during the net session.

“Some right-arm spin anyone? That moment when #TeamIndia Head Coach Rahul Dravid rolled his arm over in the nets,” BCCI wrote as caption for the video.

Notably, Dravid used to occasionally bowl off-spin during his playing days. The former India star, who doubled as wicketkeeper as well, has a Test wicket and 4 wickets in ODI cricket.

Dravid has been keeping a close eye on the preparations for the Test series in Kanpur. He began his stint as India’s full-time head coach with a 3-0 sweep of New Zealand in the T20I series earlier this year.

Rahul Dravid will take over a hugely successful Indian Test side from Ravi Shastri, who oversaw several memorable victories, including 2 Test series wins in Australia, during his tenure as head coach. Dravid replaced Shastri, who stepped down after India’s T20 World Cup campaign.

Dravid will work with stand-in captain Ajinkya Rahane in his first Test as head coach when India take on New Zealand in a series opener in Kanpur from November 25. Kohli will join the team and lead it from the 2nd Test in Mumbai as he has been rested for the opener.
