Watch: Ravindra Jadeja leaves Steve Smith stunned with a ripper | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Indian spinner Ravindra Jadeja made a memorable comeback as he ripped apart the Australian top order with a five-wicket haul on the first day of the first Test in Nagpur on Thursday.
The left-arm orthodox spinner Jadeja returned to international cricket after a knee injury that kept him out of the action for six months. Jadeja scalped all big wickets including three set batters but he saved his best in his armoury to stun Aussie batter Steve Smith with his arm delivery.
Jadeja first struck on successive balls soon after lunch that rocked Australia as he sent back Marnus Labuschagne and then trapped Matt Renshaw for a first-ball duck.

He later bowled Smith with a delivery that went through his bat and pad that even left Labuschagne amused in the pavilion. Smith went outside the line to play but was beaten by the slight turn that left the gap between bat and pad and the ball went on to rattle the stumps.

Ravichandran Ashwin also took three wickets as the Australian innings folded for 177 in the final session on a turning Nagpur pitch.
Labuschagne (49) and Smith (37) had launched a fightback with their third-wicket 82-run stand after losing openers Usman Khawaja and David Warner early in the day.
Peter Handscomb, who made 31, and wicketkeeper-batsman Alex Carey, who hit 36, also put on a partnership of 53 before Ashwin ended Carey’s spell to record his 450th Test wicket.
