A decade back, at the same venue in 2012, Kohli had scored his maiden Test century. He contributed 116 in India’s 272 all out in the first innings in response to Australia’s mammoth 604/7 declared. India went on to lose the match by 298 as the hosts chose to not enforce the follow-on and added another 167 runs before declaring their second innings. India folded up for just 201 in their second innings.
Kohli’s 116 in that match came off 213 balls, including 11 fours and 1 six after India were reduced to 87/4 at one stage.

“As soon as I knew the (T20) World Cup was in Australia, I was grinning from ear to ear. I knew good cricketing shots would be the key. I knew the kind of experience and game awareness of having played in Australia will come in handy for the team,” Kohli said at the post-match presentation ceremony after India’s win over Bangladesh on Thursday, when saw them put one foot firmly in the semis.
