We’ll Find Out What Happened to Shia LaBeouf in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

While the Indiana Jones franchise is perhaps keen to move on from the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, the Dial of Destiny’s director won’t do so without addressing what happened to Indy’s son Mutt, who was played by Shia LaBeouf.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, James Mangold didn’t give away any details as to what Mutt has been up to since Indiana Jones 5, but said simply that fans will “find out what happened to him”.

We do know he’s definitely not in the film, however, meaning his fate will probably be revealed in a throwaway line about Mutt travelling in a foreign country or perhaps taking a long ride on his beloved motorcycle.

LaBeouf’s character was introduced in 2008’s Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and was a rather infamous part of what became a rather infamous film. Mutt is the illegitimate son of Indy and joined him and his mother Marion Ravenwood on their quest for the elusive Crystal Skull.

Though it was all happy endings in the film, LaBeouf soon revealed his sour feelings for the role after saying how little he enjoyed working with Steven Spielberg. He did take some of the blame too, however, admitting that he “dropped the ball” during Indy 4’s filming.

We’ll just have to wait and see exactly what happened to Mutt when Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny premieres on June 30, 2023. Harrison Ford himself admitted he didn’t think the fifth entry was necessary but is happy with how it turned out.
