What Man Utd star Casemiro told Murtough after watching Brentford loss

Manchester United star Casemiro reassured John Murtough he was more than happy to get started at Old Trafford following their 4-0 defeat to Brentford earlier in the season, according to reports. The Brazil international joined from Real Madrid back in the summer. And he’s already made a positive impression at the club, becoming one of the first names on Erik ten Hag’s team sheet in the process.

Manchester United were outplayed by Brentford in August, with goals from Josh Dasilva, Mathias Jensen, Ben Mee and Bryan Mbeumo giving the Bees a memorable win.

The Red Devils then decided to sign Casemiro just days after, with the Brazil international moving from Real Madrid.

And, according to The Mirror, Casemiro picked up the phone to speak to Murtough in the aftermath of the shambles at the Gtech Community Stadium.

It’s said that rather than backtrack over a potential move to Old Trafford, the Samba star instead gave the Red Devils chief assurances he couldn’t wait for it to go ahead.

Casemiro could easily have been forgiven for feeling the opposite, especially given how poor United were on the day.

And compatriot Fred has now revealed he knew Casemiro would be joining him in Manchester prior to any official announcement, telling TNT Sports: “Everyone knows he is one of the best players there, who has won a lot at Real Madrid in recent years. So he’s a very experienced guy.

“On the pitch he’s a great player and off the pitch he has a huge amount of experience.

“So he’s a guy who adds a lot, both on and off the pitch, he adds a lot in the locker room.

“And it’s a pleasure to be able to play alongside him, these great players here at United.”

He then added: “Man, at first, yes. I found out well before they announced it. A few months before, we had already talked, me and him.

“We had a nice chat, he had asked how it was, I explained everything to him, what was happening at the club, that it was not one of the best moments, but which, as I said, would be a fresh start with the arrival of a new coach.

“And he liked the project, thought it would be a cool project and decided to join us.

“And as I said, we are on a good path, we are winning some games, we have already beaten some of the big six clubs as well.

“So, as I said, it’s a process and at first we are on the right path.”

Fred and Casemiro will both be hoping to start when United lock horns with Aston Villa in their Premier League clash on Sunday (2pm).

The Red Devils lost 1-0 in the same fixture at Old Trafford last term, with Bruno Fernandes blazing a penalty high over the bar that day.

However, United did avenge that defeat with a 1-0 win over Villa in the FA Cup in January – with Scott McTominay netting the only goal of the game.
