WhatsApp beta testers can now send HD photos

WhatsApp HD photos transfer feature

WhatsApp users on iOS (version 23.11.0.76) and Android (version 2.23.12.13) who are on the beta program can download the latest update version of the app and try it out. Do note that not all beta testers will have access to the feature yet but it will be rolled out soon for more users, according to WABetaInfo. If you have received the update then there are certain markers to identify it.

The feature essentially lets you share high-quality photos while maintaining their original dimensions. This feature simplifies the process of sharing photos with improved clarity.

How to send HD photos on WhatsApp

  • At present, the standard quality is the default option for all photos. But now with the update when you share a photo you will get the option to send it in HD by choosing the option available.
  • Selecting the “high quality” option while sending a photo results in the photo being labeled as high-quality. Consequently, a new tag is added to the message bubble, which aids the recipient in identifying when a photo is sent using this feature.
  • This option is only available for photos that are of a large size. It should be noted that selecting this option does not allow for sending photos in their original quality. While the image dimensions are preserved, there is still a slight compression applied to the image.
  • This feature is currently restricted to images that are shared within your conversations. It is not possible to send a video with higher quality without sending it as a document. Additionally, this feature is not currently available when sharing photos through status updates.

The messaging platform has been working on adding new features that make the user experience better, and some of these features are first tried with beta users before they are made available to everyone. You can read about them here.
