WhatsApp boosts group video and audio call capacity on Windows desktop to 32 people
Meta-owned WhatsApp is reportedly launching an enhanced feature on its Windows desktop app, allowing users to engage in video and audio calls with up to 32 individuals.
Previously, the desktop application supported group video calls with a maximum of eight participants and audio calls with up to 32 individuals. However, WhatsApp has now raised the limit for group video calls on the platform.
According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp has begun the gradual release of a feature that allows video calling for up to 32 individuals. Currently, this capability is only accessible to beta testers, who must install the beta update 2.23.24.1.0 to utilize it.
A screenshot shared by WABetaInfo shows that selected beta testers may receive an invitation to try out group calling, emphasizing the ability to make video calls to both contacts and groups directly from the Windows app, with support for up to 32 participants.
Additionally, according to the report, certain users may receive a different message emphasizing the capability of video calling with a maximum of 16 individuals. This functionality also incorporates the option to share screen content while engaged in video calls, a feature that was previously announced with the WhatsApp beta for Windows 2.2322.1.0 update. Moreover, with the installation of the most recent app update, some beta testers may finally be granted access to video messages.
Meanwhile, WhatsApp is also reportedly working on a new feature called message pin duration. Spotted by WaBetaInfo, the feature is currently under development. It is discovered in WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.13.11 update available on the Google Play Store.
Explaining how the message pin duration will work, the report says that it will enable users to choose how long a message should stay pinned in a chat. It also shares a screenshot of the feature that shows how users will have the flexibility to select a specific duration after which the pinned message is automatically unpinned.
It says that the feature, currently, will offer three different durations: 24 hours, 7 days, and 30 days to its users to choose from. The report further adds that users will have the option to unpin the current pinned message at any time, even before the chosen duration expires, “giving users greater flexibility and control over their pinned messages.”
