WhatsApp may allow users to export backups – Times of India

It can’t be a day when an upcoming WhatsApp feature doesn’t make a headline. It can’t be a day when an upcoming WhatsApp feature doesn’t make a headline. After introducing a host of new features like the ability to edit sent messages, undo delete, status updates, cover photos, etc. The list is long and it is getting even longer with the addition of the ability to export backups from Google Drive.
As always, WABetaInfo has spotted this feature in WhatsApp’s latest beta version and according to the report, the Meta-owned instant messaging app has started testing the Export Backup feature with select beta testers.
Back in January, it was reported that WhatsApp is expected to make some changes to the backup quota on Google Drive. However, the testing feature isn’t related to the export quota for WhatsApp backups.
In addition to that, the instant messaging platform is also expected to introduce an import backup feature. Both the options are expected to bring more control to users’ hands, in managing WhatsApp backups.
The feature is currently meant for Android users and there’s no information available if Meta is planning to introduce something similar on iOS as well. But we really doubt if Apple will ever allow something like that.
