WhatsApp may give ‘new power’ to group admins, may have more control over member chats – Times of India
Meta owned WhatsApp is reportedly testing a new feature that may give more authority to the group admins of chat groups. According to a report in XDA Developers, the alleged upcoming feature will allow group admins to delete messages for everyone in the group.
Presently, WhatsApp allows users in a group to individually delete their own chat messages, admins cannot remove messages sent by other members in the group. However, they can remove members from a group, take away rights of other members to send messages in the group by changing the group setting to admin only. The move seems to be aimed at giving more control to WhatsApp group admins over the content of their groups. It may help them ensure that all group members follow decorum and follow the purpose for which the group has been made.
WhatsApp will notify the group members that the said message/media was “deleted by admin” in case the admin deletes message/messages. It will also display who deleted the message (if there are more than one admin in the group).
The report also adds that this feature is currently under testing and development. There is also no time frame available on when it may start rolling out. As always, this feature will first release on WhatsApp Beta before making it available for common users.
WhatsApp recently added new controls for its disappearing messaging feature. When users now enable Disappearing Messages, they can set messages to disappear 24 hours, 7 days, or 90 days after the time they are sent. The most recent selection only controls new messages in the chat. This setting does not affect messages that were sent or received previously in the chat. In an individual chat, either user can turn disappearing messages on or off. In a group chat, any group participants can turn disappearing messages on or off. However, a group admin can change group settings to allow only admins to turn disappearing messages on or off.
