WhatsApp may soon introduce the Kept Messages feature: What is it and how will it help users – Times of India

WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature that will allow users to attach a caption while sharing documents on WhatsApp Desktop. According to a report by WABetaInfo, the Meta-owned instant messaging platform is now developing another new feature called Kept Messages which is expected to arrive with an upcoming WhatsApp beta update and is likely to be available for Android, iOS and desktop. The report also notes that the upcoming feature is under development so it is currently not yet available for beta users. However, the report has offered a preview of the upcoming Kept Messages feature but couldn’t offer any information about when the feature gets released for beta testers.
What is the Kept Messages feature and how does it work?
As per the report, the Kept Messages feature temporarily converts a disappearing message into a standard WhatsApp message for users to find it in the chat even after its expiration. WhatsApp is expected to add a new section called “Kept Messages” within the chat info tab where users will be able to find these messages and this section is likely to be available for all the members in a conversation.
Moreover, the report also suggests that when the disappearing messages feature is enabled in a certain chat, these messages can’t be starred but can only be kept. WhatsApp is planning to introduce this feature by adding some information about improving disappearing messages in an upcoming future update of the WhatsApp Desktop beta version.
Users will be allowed to keep a disappearing message in a group chat to prevent it from getting automatically deleted for other people in the conversation, however, all the members can also un-keep the message for other people later, the report suggests. Meanwhile, the report also claims that WhatsApp may allow group admins to limit this feature. It means that there is a possibility of a new privacy setting that may allow group admins to enable the feature to keep a disappearing message.
