WhatsApp rolling out a new calling button with a context menu for some users – Times of India

WhatsApp is reportedly introducing small changes for the group chat screen. The Meta-owned platform has now started rolling out a new calling button with a context menu for some of its users.
As reported by WABetaInfo, the instant messaging app has started rolling out a new call button and context menu for its iOS beta testers. Users with iOS beta version 23.11.0.76 can now see new calling icons and changes in the menu.
The report adds that after installing the updated beta version users will notice a different calling icon in group chats. This icon still allows group participants to place group calls but it now displays a context menu, allowing them to choose whether to make an audio or video call. In previous updates, an action sheet menu appeared with those two options (or the usual two buttons to place audio and video calls) but, after installing the latest update, the menu has been converted into a context menu.
“You can immediately understand if the context menu is available on your account by simply looking at the calling icon in your group chats. If a video call button along with a plus sign above the icon is available, it means the feature is enabled for your account,” mentions the report.
WhatsApp rolled out security centre globally
WhatsApp has introduced a global Security Center to cater to its user base, providing a comprehensive platform with valuable resources and insights into safety measures and product functionalities. This initiative aims to empower users in protecting themselves against unwanted contact and spam messages. The Security Center will be accessible in English and ten Indian languages, such as Hindi, Punjabi, Tamil, and Telugu.
With the introduction of the Security Center, WhatsApp seeks to educate users about the range of privacy settings available within the app, enabling them to exercise greater control over their accounts. This informative hub covers various features, including two-step verification, protection against scams, and enhanced group controls.
The establishment of the Security Center is in response to reports from users who have encountered spam calls originating from unfamiliar foreign numbers.
