WhatsApp testing an edit message feature – Times of India

WhatsApp has been testing and adding some new features lately. Now, it is working on a feature to let users edit messages even after sending them. It is not the first time we are hearing about WhatsApp’s Edit feature; back in 2017, WhatsApp was reportedly testing the feature to edit messages but the feature never made it to the stable release.
As per a report from WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is testing a feature, which will allow users to edit the message even after the message is sent. From the screenshots provided, the ‘Edit’ option seems to pop up beside ‘Info’ and ‘Copy’ when you tap and hold the message. The feature. The feature is currently under testing in the WhatsApp for Android version, and it will soon be available on iOS and Desktop platforms.
The edit feature could come in handy if you accidentally sent a text message and want to correct your mistake. Instead of deleting the message, users will be able to edit the message saving them the hassle of deleting and composing the message again. It could turn out to be a lifesaver for some, but the feature is still in beta, so we don’t know if and when it will be released to the public.
There is no word on how many times one can edit the message or if the recipient will be notified if the message is edited. And we also don’t know for how long a user will be allowed to edit the message. We expect the time window to be less than the “Delete for Everyone” feature, it being the last resort. Also, it seems like the recipient would not be able to see the edit history, but this could be added in the stable release.
