WhatsApp testing new setting for Disappearing Mode on Android – Times of India

NEW DELHI: WhatsApp recently rolled out end-to-end encryption support for chat backups. Now, it appears that the popular messaging app is working on another interesting feature for its Android users. According to an online report, Facebook-owned WhatsApp is testing a timer for its Disappearing messages feature on Android. This upcoming feature was spotted on the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.21.19.7 and the company has not officially revealed the timeline for the official rollout of the feature.
As reported by WABetaInfo, the Twitter account that tracks changes in WhatsApp build has revealed that WhatsApp will soon introduce a timer setting for Disappearing Messages mode. According to the screenshot shared by WABetaInfo, the default disappearing messages timer is available in the Disappearing messages section in the app’s privacy settings. WABetaInfo suggests that users can set a time limit for Disappearing messages — 90 days, 7 days or 24 hours. Users will also get an option to turn off the setting in case they don’t use the disappearing messages feature.
Once the timer is enabled, WhatsApp chats will be deleted automatically after the selected duration. As per the report, this upcoming feature will be available as an extension to the Disappearing messages feature.
To recall, WhatsApp WhatsApp introduced the disappearing messages feature in 2020. The feature basically allows WhatsApp users to send messages that would self-destruct after a certain time period.
WhatsApp voice message transcription feature
Recently, it was reported that WhatsApp is developing a new voice transcription feature. This new WhatsApp feature will enable users to transcribe the contents of a voice message. Presently, the voice message transcription feature is only spotted for the iOS build of the app. WABetaInfo also suggests that the voice data will not be shared with Facebook as these messages will be transcribed by Apple.
