WhatsApp recently released some important features and has been working on others for the Group chat tool in the instant messaging platform. The Meta-owned platform has recently expanded the capacity of participants available in a group and is currently working on a new function that will allow users to silently leave a group without other members being notified.
According to a report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is now testing another group feature that will allow users to search for past participants of the chat they are in. The report mentions that WhatsApp started developing this feature for the Android app and now the company is planning to include this function for iOS app users as well. The Past Participant feature will allow users to find the members who left or were removed from a group in the past 60 days.
How will WhatsApp’s past participant feature work?
As per the report, an upcoming update on WhatsApp will show a new option at the bottom of the group participants list that will allow other users to see the past participants of the group. The report explains that this feature will help users “keep track” of the participants who left a WhatsApp group. Moreover, this list will be visible not only to group admins but also to every other member of the group, the report claims. Meanwhile, as this feature is under development, the way it works might change before the release, the report suggests.

WhatsApp has also started rolling a new set of reactions that will allow users to react to a message with any emoji. Apart from that, the company has also made the ability to transfer the Android chat history to the iOS app through the “Move to iOS” app finally available for all users.
According to a report by 9to5Mac, the Move to iOS tool was “one of the most requested features” that took WhatsApp years to implement for both platforms. This new feature will help users who are planning to move from an Android phone to an iPhone (and vice versa) to retain their chat history.
