WhatsApp to offer users more control over Disappearing Messages – Times of India

WhatsApp has been offering the Disappearing Messages feature to its users for some time now. The Meta-owned messaging platform introduced the temporary conversations feature in 2020, where users were allowed to select particular chats that automatically disappears after a week. WhatsApp is now testing a feature that will counter the disappearing messages feature. According to a report by WABetaInfo, the messaging platform is experimenting with a feature that will allow users to stop some of those messages from disappearing. This feature was first referenced in a previous beta for WhatsApp. However, the report suggests that a new section has been introduced that hints at a new feature that will allow users to access previously saved messages.
WhatsApp anti-Disappearing Messages feature availability
There is no clear information about when this feature will be introduced for all WhatsApp users. This means that users have to wait for a bit before they can use this feature within the messaging app.
How will this feature work?
This upcoming WhatsApp feature will offer users an option to save messages from conversations where the disappearing messages feature is enabled. The report claims that a new section called “Kept Messages” will be added to the Contact Info section. As per the report, users will be able to view those saved messages in this section that can also be re-visited at a later date. WhatsApp is currently testing this feature on the beta version of WhatsApp Web, however, the report suggests that this feature will also be made available on future beta versions of both the Android and iOS apps.
Importance of this feature
This feature can be helpful for users if someone sends essential information like an address that the receiver might want to reference at a later date. This feature can also be essential for an extremely sentimental message that the user doesn’t want WhatsApp to automatically delete it from the chat after seven days.
