WhatsApp users will not be able to share high resolution images with their friends and family. According to an online report the Meta-owned platform has now started rolling out the ability to send HD resolution images. The feature is presently in the testing phase and is available for Android and iOS beta testers.
According to WABetaInfo, with this feature, WhatsApp is making it easier to share photos with better quality by preserving their dimensions. In order to access the feature Android users must install the update version 2.23.12.13, while iOS users need to upgrade the app to version number iOS 23.11.0.76.
The feature gives the ability to choose better quality images when sending photos and the option only appears when you select a photo large in size. “Note that this does not mean that you can send photos in their original quality because this option preserves image dimensions, but light compression is still applied to the image. In addition, the default option is always “Standard quality” for any photo. This means you have to select the HD option every time you want to share a new photo with improved quality,” mentions the report.
The report also mentions that when users send a photo by choosing the ‘high quality’ option, it will be marked as high-quality photo and the new tag will be added to the message bubble. The feature is presently limited to the images shared within individual conversations. Also, users are only allowed to send HD images and not HD resolution videos.
