When Greg Hardy used inhaler in-between rounds that got him disqualified from the fight

Greg Hardy was once caught using an inhaler during a fight. The incident took place at the UFC on ESPN: Reyes vs. Weidman event that took place at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts on October 18th, 2019. Hardy faced Ben Sosoli in a three-round heavyweight bout at the event and won via unanimous decision.

Between rounds two and three of their fight, Hardy used an inhaler while being tended to in his corner. Resultantly, the fight’s verdict was later overturned to an NC (No Contest) by the MSAC (Massachusetts State Athletic Commission).

Furthermore, as reported by ESPN, the MSAC released a statement addressing Hardy’s mid-fight use of the inhaler. An excerpt from the MSAC’s statement read as follows:

“The Massachusetts State Athletic Commission [MSAC] was made aware of Greg Hardy’s use of an inhaler just before the start of the third round of last night’s fight…The inhaler was not pre-approved by the Commission for use during the fight in accordance with the Commission’s regulations. Therefore, the Commission overturned the win and declared the bout a No Contest.”

Hardy, for his part, revealed that he suffers from exercise-induced asthma and uses an inhaler every day. He also emphasized that he’d disclosed his use of the inhaler in his paperwork for the MSAC and the UFC’s anti-doping partner USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency).

‘Prince of War’ recalled being inside the octagon during the fight when he and his coach asked a commission official if he could use an inhaler. The official asked them if it was medically approved and permitted them to use it upon being told that it was USADA-approved.

A former football defensive end who played in the NFL, Hardy made his professional MMA debut in 2018. He boasts an MMA record of seven wins and five defeats.

Greg Hardy’s most recent fight witnessed him lose to Sergey Spivak via first-round TKO at UFC 272 on March 5th. He’s on a three-fight losing streak and has been released from the UFC, but has vowed to continue his MMA career.
