When is the NBA trade deadline 2022? Date, time, latest rumors, news & top targets

It’s only a matter of time until NBA trade season really kicks into high gear.

The 2021 trade deadline was moved to late March because of the unusual December start for the 2020-21 campaign. Now that the league is back on a typical calendar, the deadline will return to early February.

Front offices still have time to evaluate their rosters, but trade rumors could start flying with more frequency this month. A significant portion of NBA players who signed contracts this past offseason will become eligible to be traded on Dec. 15, giving teams far more flexibility when it comes to constructing deals.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the 2022 NBA trade deadline.

When is the 2022 NBA trade deadline?

  • Date: Feb. 10, 2022
  • Time: 3 p.m. ET

The NBA trade deadline is Thursday, Feb. 10. The cutoff point is 3 p.m. ET, though the news of some trades may emerge shortly after that deadline.

Who are the top potential targets at the NBA trade deadline?

Ben Simmons, 76ers: He has been in the middle of trade talks since the 76ers were eliminated from the 2021 NBA playoffs, and he will remain at the center of those conversations until Philadelphia pulls the trigger. This saga has taken so many twists and turns that it’s impossible to predict how it will end.

Kyrie Irving, Nets: Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer reported that Brooklyn “has been open to discussing trades for Irving,” but none of the Nets’ conversations have generated “significant traction.” This situation will be worth monitoring, especially if Irving remains ineligible to play as the deadline approaches.

Domantas Sabonis and Myles Turner, Pacers: Indiana is open to discussing trades involving some of their veteran players, including Sabonis and Turner, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania and Bob Kravitz. The Pacers have attempted to make the frontcourt pairing work for a few seasons, but it appears they are ready to break up their duo if a suitor throws out a strong offer.

Dennis Schroder, Celtics: Boston landed Schroder on a one-year, $5.9 million contract this past offseason, and that deal has proven to be one of the biggest bargains in the league. If he maintains his current level of production, it’s unlikely the Celtics will be able to afford to re-sign him. That means they could explore the trade market.

Jerami Grant, Pistons: Multiple teams have reportedly called the Pistons about Grant, who is averaging more than 20 points per game for the second consecutive season. Detroit could be looking to capitalize on the 27-year-old’s value with the team in rebuilding mode. Grant is under contract for just one more season after 2021-22.

Buddy Hield and Marvin Bagley III, Kings: Hield was nearly traded to the Lakers during the offseason before Los Angeles ultimately decided to acquire Russell Westbrook. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see him on the move. Bagley, meanwhile, desperately needs a fresh start after a frustrating stretch in Sacramento.

Goran Dragic, Raptors: Raptors general manager Bobby Webster said before the season that Toronto wanted to keep Dragic after adding him to the roster as part of the Kyle Lowry sign-and-trade deal. However, Dragic has been getting the “DNP — coach’s decision” treatment, so it’s difficult to imagine a scenario in which he stays in Canada past the deadline.

Terrence Ross, Magic: One of the oldest players on Orlando’s roster, Ross just isn’t a great fit for this team. Multiple contenders will likely call the Magic in the hopes of landing a solid bench scorer.
