Why the Cowboys hilariously brought their own benches to FedEx Field for game vs. Washington

The rivalry between the Cowboys and the Washington Football Team is heating up ahead of Week 14. Literally.

The arch-rivals are meeting for the first time in 2021 and will square off twice in the next three weeks as the Cowboys maintain a two-game lead over Washington in the NFC East. Washington is certainly the underdog, but Dallas doesn’t seem too concerned about giving their opponents extra motivation.

INJURY UPDATE: When is Titans RB Derrick Henry returning?

It started when Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy guaranteed a win over Washington in a news conference on Thursday.

“We’re gonna win this game. I’m confident in that,” McCarthy said.

And now, the Cowboys have pulled another unusual stunt that could irk Washington. They have brought their own heated benches, clad in Cowboys logos, to FedEx Field.

Why would Dallas pull such a move? Well, according to ESPN’s Todd Archer, the team was worried about the heated benches on the sidelines, as the Seahawks reported to the Cowboys that they had issues with them a couple of weeks ago on “Monday Night Football.”

While it is December, it’s 46 degrees in Landover, Md. today and it isn’t expected to drop below 40 degrees until after 6 p.m. ET. So, Dallas almost certainly won’t need the heating capabilities of the benches.

Perhaps the Cowboys made the decision before being certain of the weather. After all, these benches are not their own. They are renting them from Dragon Seats in Cleveland, per Archer, as AT&T Stadium is a domed arena and doesn’t require heated seats on its benches.

Still, Washington won’t take kindly to this decision, and Ron Rivera will certainly use it to further motivate his players in this critical divisional clash.
