Willem Dafoe Is Joining Beetlejuice 2
Willem Dafoe is the latest to sign on for Beetlejuice 2.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Dafoe will play “a law enforcement officer in the afterlife.” Dafoe joins Jenna Ortega, Michael Keaton, and Winona Ryder, the latter two reprising their roles from the first movie. Ortega, meanwhile, is reported to play Lydia Deetz, the daughter of Ryder’s character.
Catherine O’Hara is also returning from the original. Justin Theroux and Monica Bellucci have reportedly been cast as well.
Tim Burton is returning to direct, and plot details are being kept under wraps currently. Production for Beetlejuice 2 is expected to begin this month.
Rumors of a sequel to Beetlejuice date back over a decade, with Keaton and Ryder admitting it was in the works, and Burton noting that it was “close than ever” in 2017. The long-awaited sequel was officially confirmed by Warner Bros. Discovery at CinemaCon 2023 held last month.
Beetlejuice 2 is set to release in theaters on Sept. 6, 2024, which is the same day Marvel is expected to release its Blade reboot. There is a chance, however, that Disney delays the release date for Blade as last week, we learned that pre-production has paused (again), this time due to the ongoing writers’ strike that is affecting tons of projects across the big and small screen.
