Sania Mirza travelled to the UK for the grass-court leg of the tour with her son Izhaan Mirza Malik and the 2-year-old has been cheering for his mother from the courtside at Wimbledon 2021. Mirza, a 6-time Grand Slam doubles champion, had secured a visa for his son as she prepares for the Tokyo Olympics on the grass-courts of England.

On Saturday, Izhaan Mirza Malik joined his mother and the star player’s doubles partner Rohan Bopanna for celebrations on-court after the pair won their mixed doubles second-round match. The loudest cheer from the Wimbledon crowd on Court 18 was reserved for Izhaan as he was carried onto the pitch by Sania.

In a heartwarming moment, Sania Mirza’s son high-fived Rohan Bopanna after having cheered for the Indian duo from the stands. Sania then urged her son to acknowledge the applause from the crowd.

Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna defeated the British pairing of Emily Webley-Smith and Aidan McHugh 6-3, 6-1 in their second-round match to advance to the third-round. In fact, Sania and Bopanna are the only two Indians remaining at Wimbledon 2021 field after the likes of Ramkumar Ramanathan, Ankita Raina and Divij Sharan bowed out of their respective competitions.

In fact, Sania and her doubles partner Bethanie Mattek-Sands were ousted in the women’s doubles second round on Saturday. They were beaten by the Russian pairing of Elena Vesnina and Veronika Kudermetova in straight sets 4-6, 3-6.

Notably, Sania had shared an adorable photo of her son, Izhaan cheering for her and Mattek-Sands during their first-round win at Wimbledon 2021.

Bollywood actor Anushka Sharma and former Wimbledon singles champions Marion Bartoli were among the many who cheered Sania and her youngest fan at Wimbledon after the photo went viral on social media.

In the mixed doubles third round, Sania and Bopanna will face 14th seeds Andreja Klepac and Jean-Julien Rjoer on Tuesday.
