Wimbledon finalist Ons Jabeur can’t watch Netflix episode without crying

Ons Jabeur is bidding for redemption in Saturday’s Wimbledon final after losing the championship match 12 months ago. The sixth seed will face Marketa Vondrousova as she bids to win her long-awaited first Grand Slam title. Less than three weeks ago, Jabeur admitted that she couldn’t rewatch last year’s final without crying and would be hoping to change the outcome this time around – something she now has the chance to do.

Jabeur is back into the Wimbledon final for a second straight year, suffering defeat to Elena Rybakina the last time she tried to get her hands on the Venus Rosewater Dish. The Tunisian’s last run to the championship match was recently featured in part two of Netflix’s tennis series Break Point and shows her crying in the locker room after losing the final.

Speaking before this year’s Championships, the 28-year-old told a small group of reporters that she watched the episode once but couldn’t relive the devastating moment again. “It was very emotional. I saw it actually before and I haven’t watched it again but I don’t think I will because it’s very emotional, very tough to watch it but great memories,” she said in Eastbourne.

“But it’s, especially after the finals, it was very emotional. I think me and my husband we cried when we watched that episode.” Jabeur also said she wanted the chance to change the result that was captured in the Netflix series – and she will have the opportunity to do just that in Saturday’s final.

The world No 6 added: “I mean the feeling, that never goes away, it’s always there. But definitely, you want to change the scenario there in that episode. Maybe, we will see. For me, the most important thing is I feel healthy and enjoy my game on the grass court.”

Jabeur is on something of a revenge mission at Wimbledon this year and has already avenged her defeat to Rybakina, coming from a set down to defeat last year’s champion 6-7(5) 6-4 6-1 in the quarter-final. And even after defeating the Kazakh, Jabeur said she still wouldn’t be able to watch last year’s match or the Netflix episode.

“I can’t. Very difficult. I couldn’t watch it. Very, very difficult. Until this day, I couldn’t watch this match. I can watch today’s match. That’s okay. But not last year,” she explained. “Even watching the Netflix show was painful.
