Women’s Olympic soccer quarterfinals: Complete schedule for all the knockout round matches

The quarterfinals of the 2021 Women’s Olympic tournament are set and all the favorites are still alive in the quest for medals.

Chile, China, New Zealand and Zambia were eliminated following the close of the group stage. The other eight teams advance to play in single-elimination knockout round matches beginning with the quarterfinals on Friday, July 30.

The quarterfinals are highlighted by a rematch of the 2019 World Cup final when the Netherlands faces the USA, seeking revenge for the 2-0 loss two years ago. The Netherlands is the highest-scoring team at the Olympics with 21 goals scored in three games.

Friday’s slate will open with No. 7-ranked and two-time silver medalist Brazil taking on No. 8-ranked and two-time bronze medalist Canada in a battle of women’s soccer powers. The two sides met in the bronze-medal match at the most recent Olympics in 2016, with the Canadians claiming a 2-1 win.

If any of the knockout round matches end in a tie after the 90 minutes of regulation, 30 minutes of extra time will be played (two 15-minute periods). If the deadlock persists, the match will be decided in a penalty-kick shootout.
