The 14th edition of the World Esports Championship (WEC) is all set to begin later this week in Bali. From December 1-12, players from 120 countries including India will take part in the tournament organized by the International Esports Federation (IESF).
The tournament features competitions in six video games including Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Dota 2, Tekken 7, eFootball, PUBG Mobile, and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Bang. With a prize pool of $500,000, players from around the world will be competing hard to gain laurels for their countries.
When it comes to India, the nation will be sending its contingent to compete in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Tekken 7, and eFootball.
Speaking about CS:GO, Team India will begin its campaign on December 2 with a Group C bout against Tajikistan. The group also contains Team IESF and Chile. The CS:GO team of India features players like Ritesh Sarda (Defaulter), Shuvajyoti Chakraborty (Mcg1LLzZz), Anshul Adarkar (KiiLSwitCh), Hrishikesh Shenoy (Crazy_Gamer) and Harsh Jain (lynX).
Rohan Sarda, who leads the squad as captain, talked about his team’s ambitions to go big in the upcoming tournament. He said, “With the right mentality and proper grind, we have high hopes for the tournament and will try to bring the laurels to the country.”
On the other hand, while Hitesh Khorwal (Rcool) will represent India in Tekken 7, Hemanth Kommu (Peshemak7) will be playing against other players in eFootball.
Khorwal will be competing in Tekken 7 against players from Pakistan, Bahamas, Venezuela, and Palestine in Group E, with his first match taking place on December 3. Similarly, Kommu will have stiff competition in eFootball from Guinea, Kazakhstan, and Armenia.
Speaking about the Indian contingent’s chances in the upcoming tournament, Yugal Kishore Sharma, director of Esports Federation of India said, “This set of our athletes have great potential.” He further stated, “We are confident that they will give a tough challenge to the world’s best and emerge victorious and make our glorious nation proud.”
