Blizzard’s World of Warcraft mobile MMO may have been axed, as per a report by Bloomberg. Blizzard and Chinese game developer NetEase reportedly could not come to an agreement for the mobile MMO. The two gaming companies did not agree upon the financial terms and have even disbanded the team of 100 NetEase developers, says the report.
The mobile game was said to have been an MMORPG featuring a different story in the Warcraft universe than the PC game. With the code name Neptune, the game was said to have been in development for about three years.
However, a Warcraft mobile game is still coming, though it will not be an MMORPG. It’s Warcraft: Arclight Rumble, a strategy game that was announced this summer.
NetEase has had a profitable relationship with Blizzard, and its recent collaboration with the US-based game developer on Diablo Immortal has proved quite profitable with the game. Diablo Immortal on Android and iOS has risen fast to earn $100 million in global player spending within two months of its launch, as per a report by Sensor Tower. By crossing the $100 million mark in just eight weeks, the mobile action RPG stands behind just Pokemon Go, which took about two weeks to reach the milestone. On the third spot is Fire Emblem Heroes from Niantic, which took 10 weeks. Occupying the fourth and fifth position on the list of most revenue generating games are Fortnite and Final Fantasy XV: A New Empire, with 12 weeks and 22 weeks taken to cross the $100 million revenue mark respectively.
