Wrexham: Wrexham’s Paul Mullin suffers punctured lung in pre-season friendly against Manchester United | Football News – Times of India
The severity of the injury was evident as Mullin stayed down on the pitch and was attended to by physios, who administered oxygen. A stretcher was also brought out for precautionary measures. However, the 28-year-old showed immense resilience and managed to walk off the pitch before being replaced.
Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson later confirmed the news of Mullin’s punctured lung, adding to the concern surrounding the striker’s health. The incident prompted Wrexham’s owner and Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds to express his support and wish Mullin a speedy recovery on the messaging platform X (formerly known as Twitter).
“Paul Mullin puts his last drop of blood into everything he does. The entire Wrexham AFC community is pulling for a speedy recovery,” Reynolds stated in his post.
In the friendly match, Wrexham emerged victorious with a 3-1 scoreline, with Elliott Lee, Aaron Hayden, and Sam Dalby finding the net. Marc Jurado scored the lone goal for Manchester United, who fielded a second-string side consisting of young players.
Wrexham, a Welsh club, gained global recognition last season when they achieved a remarkable comeback to the English Football League after a 15-year absence. Their popularity surge led to pre-season friendlies with top-flight Premier League teams, including a match against Chelsea, which Wrexham lost 5-0.
Looking ahead, Wrexham is preparing for their League Two campaign, which kicks off at home against MK Dons on August 5.
