WTC Final, India vs New Zealand: More heavy rain in Southampton; Day 4 fate hangs in the balance | Cricket News – Times of India
NEW DELHI: Overall overcast conditions and persistent rain in Southampton could severely affect play on day four of the ongoing World Test Championship final today between India and New Zealand.
According to the UK Met department – “heavy rain” is expected in Southampton today.
It has been raining heavily since 7 am Southampton time this morning (11:30 am IST Monday morning) and as per the weather forecast, heavy rain in Southampton is expected at least till 4 pm local time today (8:30 pm IST). Post that too, there are light showers expected.
The opening day of the WTC final was washed out with not a ball being bowled. Day 2 saw 64.4 overs bowled by New Zealand, after Kane Williamson won the toss and put India into bat. After India were skittled out for 217 in 92.1 overs, New Zealand ended Day 3 at 101/2 in 49.0 overs. A total of 77.1 overs were bowled on the third day.
Is another washout on the cards in Southampton on day 4?

Even after the rain stops, it takes time for the outfield to dry and for conditions to be safe for the players to take the ground.
A sixth day has been kept as a reserve day for the WTC final. But a lot of time has already been lost due to bad weather and bad light. Poor light forced early stumps on both days 2 and 3 of the match.
New Zealand are trailing India currently by 116 runs (101/2), with Kane Williamson (12) and Ross Taylor (0) unbeaten at the crease.
By the looks of it the match overall will be a low scoring affair, but if the rain persists, will there be enough time for a clear result?
If the match ends in a draw or tie, India and New Zealand will share the World Test Championship title.
