X to Introduce Video Calling Support, CEO Linda Yaccarino Confirms – Smartprix

Ever since Elon Musk has taken over the X (aka Twitter),  it has witnessed quite a few major changes in the popular social media website. The micro-blogging social media giant has been gradually expanding its horizons, with recent reports hinting at the development of peer-to-peer payment capabilities. The ongoing changes don’t seem to take any halt in the coming future and adding it to that a new feature has been confirmed for X. CEO Linda Yaccarino in a CNBC interview confirmed that the social media website will soon get video calling support.

Video Call Feature Confirmed For X

X Corp.’s CEO Linda Yaccarino shared some of important insights into the company’s strategic vision. Notably, she revealed that X is actively engaged in crafting innovative enhancements, poised to transform the platform into the ultimate everything app for its user base.

Yaccarino highlighted the significance of immediate interactions within a social media realm, the CEO stressed the pivotal role of real-time engagements. Yaccarino drew a parallel between X and a worldwide town square, characterized by uninhibited expression, and envisioned as a space where the public can seamlessly convene and interact in real-time.

Later, she affirmed that the upcoming video calling capability on X won’t demand users to share their phone numbers. This approach mirrors Meta’s methodology with its social media platforms, such as Facebook and Instagram, where video calls are initiated utilizing the account name and IP address. With the feature currently in its advanced stages of development, Yaccarino’s confirmation followed a preliminary glimpse of the feature shared by an X employee.

Andrea Conway, a member of the X design team, recently shared visuals of the video calling interface within X. As evident in the presented images, the interface seems optimized for iOS compatibility. Users will notice a dedicated call icon placed at the upper right corner of their Direct Messages interface. Upon selecting this icon, users are presented with the option to initiate either an audio or video call with the chosen recipient.

The second image depicts an ongoing video call, featuring buttons for speaker, mute, video, and call termination, arranged in that order. It’s worth mentioning that Conway’s corresponding post is approximately one month old, and the final rendition could potentially exhibit variances.
