Xbox Is Once Again Aiming To Launch A First-Party Game Every Three Months

Sunday’s Xbox Showcase and Starfield Direct showed off plenty of upcoming games for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC, and after the show, more details were shared on the cadence of first-party releases that Microsoft is aiming for. After a dismal 2022, Microsoft wants to release “at least four” first-party games a year, if possible.

“Our ambition is to release at least four first-party games a year–although we’ll also balance that out with careful consideration for each project’s needs,” Xbox Wire editor-in-chief Joe Skrebels explained. “That’s on top of the work our teams are doing to grow our existing communities that we’ve fostered over many years like The Elder Scrolls Online, Sea of Thieves, Minecraft, Forza, and so on.”

This isn’t the first time that Microsoft has set ambitious goals for the number of Xbox first-party game releases it wants to deliver every year, as back in 2021. Microsoft said then that its goal was to make sure that a “steady stream of compelling exclusive content to explore” across various genres would be available every quarter.

The biggest Xbox first-party game of the year, Starfield, is close to launch and will arrive in September. The Starfield Direct showed off plenty of new details on the game, including ship combat, the factions that you’ll encounter, and confirmation that Skyrim’s biggest fanboy has made it to space. Beyond Starfield, the rest of Xbox’s gaming calendar is being populated with heavy-hitter games like Fable, Clockwork Revolution, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II.
