Xbox Series X/S: WD_Black Announces Storage Expansion Cards for Microsoft’s Next-Gen Consoles

Western Digital has just announced its expansion card series for the Xbox Series X/S. The long-running rumours of an alternative to the Seagate expansion cards for Xbox’s next-gen consoles are finally official. WD_Black, the company’s dedicated brand for gaming, has built the storage expansion for the consoles. They have also revealed the price for these storage cards.

WD_Black Xbox Series X/S Storage Expansion Cards

WD_Black is offering two variants in the expansion card series for the Xbox Series X/S. First is the 512GB expansion card. It has been priced at $80 (roughly Rs 6,600) by WD_Black. The other option is a 1TB expansion card. The 1TB expansion card is available for $150 (roughly Rs. 12,400). As part of the promotion, customers will get a one-month subscription to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for free, when purchasing either of these expansion cards for their Xbox Series X or S.

Price Comparison

There’s currently no listing on Amazon or Flipkart for the new WD_Black C50 expansion cards for Xbox Series X/S. It’s also unclear what the actual price of these cards will be in India. Seagate’s expansion cards are available in India but to give a better price comparison, we’re also mentioning the price in US dollars.

Seagate’s 1TB expansion card is available for Rs. 17,499 in India (and $150 on Amazon in the US). The 512GB version is available for Rs. 10,499 in India (and $128 on Amazon in the US). This makes it more likely that WD_Black’s 512GB storage expansion card will actually be a cheaper alternative to Seagate’s 512GB storage card.

The expansion cards are used to not only add more storage, but storing games on it and freeing up space on the console’s SSD makes the overall performance better. The console’s Quick Resume feature also receives a boost by freeing up space on the console’s SSD.
