Xiaomi leads 5G Android phone shipments globally: Report – Times of India

NEW DELHI: According to an analyst firm, Xiaomi has emerged as the leader in 5G Android phone shipments globally in the second quarter of 2021. According to Strategy Analytics, the company captured a 26% market share and shipped 24 million 5G smartphones. In the past few months, Xiaomi launched 5G smartphones under its Mi and Redmi series. The launch of affordable 5G smartphones helped Xiaomi grow and compete against other smartphone makers.
Citing its latest research, Strategy Analytics said, “Xiaomi’s performance places it closely behind Samsung, which has shipped an impressive 77 million 5G smartphones worldwide over the previous 10 quarters. Samsung shipped the world’s first 5G smartphones, beginning in Q1 2019.”

On the other hand, Huawei remains the cumulative 5G smartphone leader among Android OS phone makers. The report revealed that Huawei shipped 95 million 5G smartphones worldwide over the past nine quarters. However, the US ban imposed on Huawei has resulted in the drop of smartphone shipments and has also worked in favour of other Chinese companies like Oppo, Honor, Realme and Lenovo-Motorola.
Vivo captured the second position on the list with an 18.5% market share for the 5G Android phone shipments worldwide. The company shipped 17.5 million units during Q2, 2021. Vivo and Oppo came third with a market share of 17.9% and 16.5% respectively.
Lenovo-Motorola turned out to be the leader in terms of year-on-year growth according to Strategy Analytics. The company shipped a total of 3,480 per cent annually in the second quarter.
Realme ranked second in terms of annual growth with a 1773% year-on-year increase in volumes in the second quarter of 2021. Realme is followed by rival smartphone maker OnePlus which ranked third with total shipments volume growing 877% annually.
